Dismissed Domestic Assault and Domestic Disorderly Conduct

July, 2020

Our client was charged with Domestic Assault and Domestic Disorderly Conduct in Rhode Island. Both of these are misdemeanor offenses. The potential penalties for these charges are potential jail time, completion of the batterer’s intervention program, extra assessment fees of $125.00 and a domestic no contact order. In addition, if a person is convicted under the Domestic Violence Prevention Act in Rhode Island, they may be required to forfeit their firearm rights.

We did our own independent investigation, separate from the police. As a result of this investigation, we were able to convince the prosecutor to dismiss the charges on certain conditions.

Despite the court being closed to Covid-19, the prosecutor was able to file a dismissal of these charges.
