Ellison Law LLC is seeking a self-motivated, passionate criminal defense attorney looking to work in a technologically advanced and flexible work environment. This position is appropriate for an attorney who wants flexibility in their schedule and wants to work with a passionate criminal defense team. It could be for somebody who doesn’t like the business aspects of running their own firm but wants to be a criminal defense attorney. It also could be for somebody who doesn’t want the higher case loads of being a government attorney but still wants to do criminal defense work.

Job Position Description / Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in criminal defense cases, including but not limited to, DUIs, assault charges, drug offenses, and other crimes.
- Represent clients on traffic tickets at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal.
- Represent clients at driver’s license suspension hearings and appeals with the Rhode Island DMV and Massachusetts RMV.
- Perform intakes with potential new clients and complete the signup process.
- Perform legal research and prepare memos, motions, pleadings, etc.
- Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to the legal profession’s ethical standards.
- Prepare for, attend, and present arguments at court hearings, arraignments, pre-trial conferences, trials etc.
- Create and update client files, electronically, as needed.
- Prepare for and represent clients at trial.
- Develop legal defenses and strategies for clients and investigate client’s cases.
- Consistently communicating with clients on their case status.
- Collaborate with team members, including our other lawyers, on Zoom and in person.
- Meet Key Performance Indicators as set by the firm.

Location:
This position is remote. Our physical office is located in Providence, RI. Our office has a remote first mentality. The physical office can be used for in-person meetings with clients and team members.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts (Rhode Island is required, both are preferred).
- A demonstrated passion for criminal defense through experience.
- Must be in good standing with the state bar association.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with extensive experience being in a courtroom.
- Ability to manage a caseload and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with criminal court procedures and rules of evidence.
- Must be able to show compassion to clients and understanding of their situation in order to provide exceptional customer service.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish is desirable but not required.
