DUI Reduced to Reckless Driving

Our client was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol in Rhode Island. This is a misdemeanor criminal offense in Rhode Island. It has possible penalties of jail, fines and fees, a license suspension, mandatory DUI classes or alcohol counseling, community service, probation, and/or having a criminal record. We requested all evidence in the case and reviewed it. We presented mitigation involving our client’s life to the prosecutor. As a result of our arguments, the prosecutor agreed to reduce the charges from DUI to Reckless Driving. This allowed our client so avoid a mandatory criminal conviction. As a result, in a year, our client has the possibility to have no criminal record.
