Shoplifting Dismissed at the First Court Appearance in Rhode Island

February, 2024

At Ellison Law LLC, we’re happy to share a significant victory for our client – the dismissal of criminal shoplifting charges in Rhode Island at our client’s first court date.

Our client was charged with Shoplifting in Rhode Island. This is a misdemeanor criminal offense in Rhode Island. Being charged with a misdemeanor is stressful because it has potential punishments of fines, jail, probation and a criminal conviction.

Prior to the first court date, our attorneys gathered evidence and crafted a strong defense strategy. At the first court date our attorneys spoke to the prosecutor about the charges. After negotiating with them, the prosecutor agreed to dismiss the charges. This was a big relief to our client because we were able to get their case dismissed quickly and our client will avoid having a criminal record. After the charges were dismissed, our client’s record was sealed. As a result, the charge is no longer on their record.
