Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Methamphetamine, Possession of a Firearm during Crime of Violence, Possession of Methamphetamine over 10 grams to an ounce and Maintaining Common Nuisance Results in Two Year Deferred Sentence in Rhode Island

May, 2026

Our client was charged with 2 counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance greater than 10 grams and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence in Rhode Island. If convicted of these very serious allegations, they were facing a mandatory sentence of 2 years of jail time, potential probation, hefty fines and having felony convictions on their record. Understanding how severe these charges are, our attorneys jumped to action.

They prepared for the court appearances by analyzing all of the evidence available including the police report, witness testimonies, any video footage available and having multiple interviews with our client to understand the circumstances of the alleged event.

Our attorneys went to the court dates, presenting the facts of the case while arguing for our client. After multiple negotiations with the prosecutors, they were able to successfully secure a two year deferred sentencing for our client on the drug charges and the gun charge was dismissed. This means that our client has to complete all of the conditions imposed by the court while adhering to the law. Once this two year period is done, their case will be eligible to be expunged. This allowed them to avoid the mandatory jail sentence and felony conviction while giving them a path to have this off of their record.

At Ellison Law LLC, we believe in protecting your rights. If you have received any type of drug related charges in Rhode Island and you don’t know what to do, contact our Rhode Island criminal defense attorneys today so we can help you through the entire process.
